Charlotte Olympia Dellal was born on June 5, 1981 in South Africa. The daughter of Andrea de Magalhaes Vieira, a former Brazilian fashion model, and Guy Dellal, Charlotte Olympia spent her childhood in London with her sister Alice Dellal, fashion model, and her brother Alexander Dellal. She began designing from her love of fashion and the art of corsetry.
Charlotte took her passion to Cordwainers, the world-renowned college for footwear and accessories in London. Here she was able to explore her interests alongside technical training in the art of making beautiful shoes. Soon after graduating in 2004 eager to specialize in footwear, she launched her eponymous London-based shoe brand in January 2008. The label's first store opened in the city's Mayfair district in 2010.
Inspired by the glamour and sophistication of the 1940s and 1950s,Charlotte Olympia designs have become synonymous with classic sophistication and meticulous attention to detail. Creating iconic shoes such as the Dolly with its signature gold island platform, are in keeping with the brand’s feminine design philosophy, inspired by a bygone era of old-Hollywood glamour. Each shoe is handcrafted in Italy using only the finest materials and finished with a signature gold spider’s web on the sole.
The brand’s distinctive leopard prints, fan detailing and arresting use of color have quickly become design classics; coveted by Sarah Jessica Parker, Alexa Chung, Anna Dello Russo, Keira Knightly, Katy Perry and Beyoncé amongst others. The label continues to develop its product lines to include, not only captivating heels, but also an array of flats, boots and accessories.
Charlotte Olympia now develops four collections a year includingEncore, a collection of signature silhouettes available all year round. TheCharlotte Olympia stores in London’s Mayfair and Manhattan’s Madison Avenue aim to encapsulate Charlotte’s world. The British designer, who has worked in collaboration with others designers such asClements Ribeiro, Emilio de la Morena, Peter Som and Temperley London, took home the Accessory Designer Award in 2011, awarded by the British Fashion Council. In January of 2012, Charlotte Olympia opened her first New York City shop front.
